FAQ

Q1.  How far in advance should I schedule my Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure?

Answer: Consultations can be scheduled any time. We prefer at least a 48 hour notice to schedule surgery, although at times we have been able to accommodate patients with as little as 24 hour notice. You may also elect to schedule your surgery weeks or even months in advance.

Q2.  What is my next step, if I’m interested in having the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure?

Answer: Dr. Huertas and his staff will be happy to discuss this procedure with you. Please feel free to call if you have any further questions, or schedule a private consultation and/or surgery online. Our telephone number is 972-279-9000.

Q3.   Are credit cards accepted for the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure?

Answer: Yes. We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

Q4.   Are Financing Plans Available?

Answer: No.

Q5.  Does Insurance cover the costs of a Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure?

Answer: Insurance usually does not cover the cost of this surgery because it is considered elective.

Q6.  What Is Vaginoplasty?

Answer: A vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the vagina. This is done by removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the surrounding soft tissues and muscles.

During delivery of a baby the vagina and surrounding tissues and muscles become stretched. After delivery the vagina may return to a more “normal” size, but it often fails to return to its’ pre pregnancy diameter. Generally, the more vaginal deliveries, the worse the condition gets. Many women will complain of decreased sensation and sexual satisfaction during intercourse. Commonly this is due to a lack of friction. Often their partner may notice a change although he may say nothing. Kegel exercises are often recommended but rarely succeed in restoring vaginal tightness.

Vaginoplasty surgery will tighten the vagina and surrounding tissues yielding a vaginal tightness similar to before the patient had children.

We have also had numerous patients who feel loose although they have never had children. On physical exam they indeed had a vaginal diameter that was greater than expected. Vaginoplasty surgery can help these women as well. For more details about Labiaplasty visit our Vaginoplasty Surgery page.

Q7.  What Is Labiaplasty?

Answer: Labia reduction & Cosmetic Enhancement: Labiaplasty is a cosmetic genital surgical procedure that will reduce the size or change the shape of the small lips on the outside of the vagina (the labia minora).

Many women are born with large or irregular labia. Others develop this condition after childbirth or with aging. The appearance of the enlarged labia can cause embarrassment with a sexual partner or loss of self esteem. Some women just want to look “prettier” like the women they see in magazines or in films.

Chronic labial irritation can sometimes develop in women who wear tight clothing. Discomfort can occur with sex, sports or other physical activities.

Labiaplasty can greatly enhance the cosmetic appearance of the outer vagina giving many women greater confidence and self esteem. Women whose labia become irritated and painful will often find relief after surgery. For more details about Labiaplasty visit our Labiaplasty Surgery page.

Q8.  What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Answer: This is a combined surgery of both labiaplasty and vaginoplasty. A vaginal rejuvenation is performed surgically to restore or improve the vagina’s cosmetic appearance or function. These two distinct surgeries can be performed at the same time at our office yielding cosmetically enhanced labia and a tightened vagina during one surgical visit.

Q9.  Can you actually change the dimensions of my vaginal lips?  Also, can you plump up my lips that have been sagging for years?

Answer: Yes. Through a procedure called Laser Perineoplasty, we can restructure the relaxed or aging perineum. We will enhance both the sagging vaginal outer lips and inner lips. Overall the procedure will result in a youthful and aesthetically appealing vulva. We also perform Laser Augmentation Labioplasty, which will make the outer lips more full and youthful. We do this through a liposuction procedure where we take the patient’s own fat and transfer it to the labia majora or mons pubis. This procedure is often done in conjunction with liposuction.

Q10.  How long after the Designer Laser Vaginoplasty surgery or the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery will my first post-op office visit be?

Answer: It depends on the patient but it is usually one to four days.

Q11.  How long does the Designer Laser Vaginoplasty surgery take?

Answer: The Designer Laser Vaginoplasty surgery is usually performed in under an hour. This timeframe varies depending on exactly what is done. It also varies with the total number of procedures being done at one time.

Q12.  My problem is that I am embarrassed about having sex because I feel that my vaginal area is unattractive. Can you correct this? I want to feel better about myself.

Answer: One of the other trademarked gynecological cosmetic procedures I perform is called Designer Laser Vaginoplasty. Like the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, this surgery is individualized to meet the needs and desires of the patient.

The most common of these procedures is called Laser Reduction Labioplasty.  In this surgery we sculpt the elongated or unequal labia minora, which are the small inner lips of the vagina, according to the patient’s specifications. Most women tell us that they don’t want the small inner lips to protrude past the large outer lips (the labia majora). Since this is a cosmetic procedure, we can make the vaginal lips look any way the patient wishes.

Q13.  Ever since I had my last baby, I felt left out of sex.  Will the surgery change this?

Answer:  It is possible that your partner has had similar feelings. Delivering your baby stretched out your vaginal walls much like an overstretched rubber band. Therefore both of you were not as stimulated during lovemaking. After Laser Vaginal Surgery, the vagina will be tightened and the muscle tone is restored which increases friction. This will result in greatly increased sexual gratification.

Q14.  When can I use a tampon?

Answer: For the first 6 weeks use sanitary pads only. After that you can comfortably go back to using tampons.

Q15.  Will the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery affect my periods in any way?

Answer: It is possible that it could temporarily throw off your menstrual cycle during the first month. However this is not always the case since laser surgery is less traumatic.

Q16.  Is resuming intercourse going to be painful?

Answer:  It shouldn’t be if you wait the recommended period of time. In fact you will be surprised by how gratifying sex will really be again.

Q17.  How soon after the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery can I resume intercourse?

Answer: Usually, eight weeks. However, every patient is different. After surgery I will review the situation with you and recommend what is right for you.

Q18.  How soon after I deliver my baby, can I have the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery?

Answer: We recommend waiting a minimum of six weeks.

Q19.  Should I have a private nurse to come home with me and stay with me after the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery?

Answer: After Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery, having a private nurse is not a medical necessity. However we do encourage it for the first night at home because it makes the patient feel more comfortable.  If you wish to have a private nurse, we can arrange to have one for you. We can also make arrangements for you to stay in a local hotel.

Q20.  I expect I will be in pain after the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery. What do you do to minimize the pain?

Answer: The benefit of having laser surgery is that there is less pain, less inflammation or swelling, less bleeding and a faster healing time. The goal is to keep you as comfortable as possible. We use oral medication and two types of local anesthesia, so that the patient will not have any pain for 18-24 hours.  On the day after surgery, if you feel the need we will bring you back to the office and give you a second injection to further numb the area.

Q21.  What kind of anesthesia will you use for the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery?

Answer: We normally use general anesthesia but regional or local anesthesia are also options.

Q22.  How long does the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery take?

Answer: The average Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery takes about 90 minutes.

Q23.  In simple terms that I can understand, will you please describe why Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery and what you will actually do?

Answer: First, it important to understand what Masters and Johnson determined in their sexual study. They concluded that sexual gratification is directly related to the degree of frictional forces generated during intercourse.

In Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, we decrease the internal and external vaginal diameters and increase and strengthen the vaginal muscle tone. At the same time, if necessary, we can repair the condition of stress urinary incontinence. This physical restructuring restores the vaginal area to a natural state as it was prior to pregnancy. It is also possible to re-create the vaginal tightness associated with a younger woman. This will make intercourse more pleasurable for both you and your partner.

Q24.  I understand that Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation surgery is elective surgery. Are there any medical conditions that would preclude me from having the procedure?

Answer: If a person is in general good health, there are no contra-indications to having this surgery.  If a person has severe medical problems such as cardiac or pulmonary disease or a traumatic condition, there is a possibility that she may not be a candidate.

Q25.  I have delivered several children and since then, things just aren’t the same. Sex isn’t as satisfying as it used to be. My muscle tone is poor and there is no longer the sensation I once experienced. My doctor told me to perform Kegel exercises. I tried this for weeks but with no results.

When I learned about your procedure I was happy to know that something really could be done to help me. Please explain how Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation can correct my physical problems and enhance my sexual pleasure.

Answer: Many women have told us they share your experience and have acted to change the quality of their lives.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation is a modification of a standard gynecologic surgical procedure. The laser is used to perform precise, aesthetic surgical incisions.

The techniques that Dr. Huertas learned from his advanced training result in a relatively bloodless procedure performed on an outpatient basis.

In brief, we will tighten the vaginal muscles and supportive tissues, as well as reduce the vaginal lining. The procedure will improve vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control. It will effectively decrease the internal and outer vaginal diameters, as well as build up the perineum, the area immediately outside the vaginal entrance and above the anus. According to Masters and Johnson, sexual gratification for the female is directly related to the amount of frictional forces generated during intercourse. We can accomplish this. The procedure can also provide an aesthetic enhancement of the external vaginal structures, resulting in a more youthful look.

As with all of our surgical procedures your concerns and input are very important and we will listen to you and abide by your wishes. In this procedure it is the patient, and only the patient, who determines what the final result should be.

Q26.  I have had several children and lose urine when I laugh, cough, sneeze, and exercise. This problem has really impacted my life. It is socially embarrassing. Can I correct my urinary problem and become tighter at the same time?

Answer: Your problem is called urinary stress incontinence. It is caused by the relaxation of the top portion of the vaginal wall. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation can correct your problem of stress incontinence along with providing increased sexual satisfaction at the same time.

Q27.  What’s so special about laser surgery compared to regular surgery?

Answer: The laser is an extremely precise optical knife. Unlike a scalpel, or metal surgical knife, the laser cuts with light and is uniquely designed to seal off small blood vessels as it passes over skin surfaces. This causes minimal bleeding and inflammation, resulting in faster healing, less postoperative pain and reduced scarring.

Q28.  How long does Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation take?

Answer: The surgical time depends upon the extent of the procedure. In general the procedure takes about two hours.

Q29.  When can I return to work after Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Answer: In general, returning to work is dependent upon the type of work you do. Most patients can return within 5 to 7 days.

Q30.  I am from out of town. How long do I have to remain in the area after Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Answer: You can return home in 4 days, but much sooner for less complex procedures. For labial reduction you can return home in 1-2 days.

Q31.  How much does Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation cost?

Answer: Fees are all inclusive of the surgical center, anesthesia, surgical assistant, surgeon and follow-up, but do not apply to laboratory charges or prescription medications. The fee depends upon the type of the procedure and its complexity. A specific fee will be provided once we know your particular needs.

Q32.  What are the surgical risks for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Answer: Laser vaginal rejuvenation is a safe procedure with very low risk. The surgical risk for excessive bleeding and infection, as well as adverse reactions to anesthetics, is less than 1%. If one requires surgery on both the upper and lower walls of the vagina, there is a potential risk of injury to the bladder and the rectum. To keep this in perspective, this occurrence is exceedingly rare. As with any surgery one can encounter postoperative scarring, and over-correction can potentially result in painful sex.

Q33.  Can Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation be combined with other Laser Reduction Surgeries?

Answer: Yes. These procedures are frequently done at the same time.

Q34.  Does insurance cover Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation or Laser Reduction Labioplasty?

Answer: Unfortunately, most insurance companies view these surgeries as cosmetic and are reluctant to reimburse patients. One exception is the patient who has urinary stress incontinence. Depending upon your insurance carrier and the terms of your individual policy, reimbursement may be available. Many of our patients have received significant compensation from their insurers after their surgery. We will work with you to maximize any reimbursement you are entitled to.

Q35.  What is Designer Laser Vaginoplasty? Why do women want to have this done?

Answer: Designer Laser Vaginoplasty is a group of cosmetic procedures that enhance and beautify the external vaginal structures. The most common of these procedures reduces the size of the Labia Minora (The inner vaginal lips). Some women have experienced trauma to these structures at the time of delivery that often make the Labia irregular. Other women were born with large labia. In either situation women may experience discomfort wearing certain types of clothes, or the may experience pain and irritation with intercourse, or they may be self-conscious about the appearance of these structures.

Q36.  I do not live in the Dallas, TX area. Can you make arrangements for out-of-town clients?

Answer: My office can certainly accommodate your situation. Depending on the procedure and your travel distance you may need to plan for 2-4 days in Dallas.

Q37.  How Much Is An Initial Consultation?

Answer: Dr. Huertas is not charging prospective patients the normal $250.00 fee for an initial consultation, regardless of whether or not you decide to have the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure done.

This means it will not cost you anything to have a private consultation with a trained and experienced surgeon regarding the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure.
